Betty V. (LaRocco) Sanderson

Torrington- Betty V. Sanderson, 89, died Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Valerie Manor, Torrington.

        Mrs. Sanderson was born in Torrington on October 23, 1926, daughter of the late Angelo and Rosa (Diaso) LaRocco, and had been a lifelong city resident. Betty was a hairdresser and a retired office manager for ophthalmologist Dr. John Glenn’s office, where she had been employed for 20 years. Mrs. Sanderson had been a volunteer at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, was a fabulous baker, enjoyed ballroom dancing, loved animals, and walked 5-6 miles per day until her early 80s. Betty devoted the last 30 years of her life caring for her late daughter, Patricia Sanderson, who passed away in 2013.

        Survivors include two daughters, Susan E. Martino and her husband Andrew of Florida, and Paula E. Sanderson of New Hartford, a son; Paul R. Sanderson and his wife Teresa of Norfolk, three brothers; Joseph LaRocco of Tolland, Sam LaRocco, and Angelo LaRocco, both of Torrington, a sister; Jean Riefe of Torrington, three grandchildren; Joshua Spitz, Jeremy Spitz, and Elyse Sanderson, one great-grandson; Jacob Spitz, a special niece; Ann Szabo of Torrington, son-in-law, Mark Burke (husband of Patricia Sanderson) and several other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sanderson was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia E. Sanderson, three sisters; Anna, Rose, and Gracie, and two brothers, Elia and Tony

        Friends and family may call Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 12:00 to 2:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, will be private.

        At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Little Guild of St. Francis, 285 Sharon-Goshen Tpke., West Cornwall, CT 06796, or any animal organization of the donor’s choice.
