To the family,

I met Charlie when I was between 7th and 8th grade through a summer reading program, back in 1968. I have dyslexia which has made life a little tougher. I was a grade level behind in reading. He helped me gain a 9th grade level by the end of that session. A very kind and gentle man. I saw him many times at the Ellis household, as we were neighbors. Thank the Lord that he was part of my life.
I am a teacher too. And I know with proper guidance,a student can flourish. He was a scholar and a hero.
God bless you all. Stay close to one another, as he would have wanted you too.
My sympathies to all.

I too had Mr Chretien as my 8th grade History teacher in 1961 at Wetmore. Thoroughly enjoyed his class during the Civil War Centennial and he made history exciting. I credit Mr Chretien for my love of history and he was my favorite teacher. He will be missed. - Mike Dubiel.

My condolences to Charles Chretien's family.

He was my 8th Grade history teacher in 1962 at the old Wetmore School when Torringford School became too crowded and the 7th and 8th grades of that district attended South and Wetmore Schools, respectively. There were three eighth grade home rooms and I think we were the only students in that building at the time.

I remember Mr. Chretien as an excellent teacher -- I seem to remember having to know at least the important cabinet members of the Kennedy Administration, so there was some current events involved too. He leaves a great legacy of many former students. I'm glad to know he also leaves such a large family.

Thank you, Mr. Byrne for your kind words. My grandfather loved teaching and was a great patriarch for my family. Always a gentleman, disciplined, and kind.
