Doris B. (Brooks) Hughes

Torrington- Doris B. Hughes, 94, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017 in her home. She was the beloved wife of the late David L. Hughes.

          Mrs. Hughes was born in Newport, VT on September 27, 1922, daughter of the late Clayton and Sarah (Temple) Brooks, and had been a Torrington resident for 45 years. She was a retired machine operator with the Seth Thomas Clock Company, retiring with over 30 years of service. Mrs. Hughes attended many 2nd Emergency Rescue Squadron reunions in many different states throughout the years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and word search puzzles.

          Survivors include four sons, Robert L. Hughes and his wife Sandy, Ronald L. Hughes, all of Torrington, Wayne L. Hughes of Harwinton, and Bruce L. Hughes and his wife Rose of Winsted; six grandchildren, Bruce L. Hughes, Jr., Melinda Moulthrop, Tracy Butler, Heidi Wilson, Cherie Hughes, and Jennifer Matava; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Mrs. Hughes was predeceased by a brother, Bernard Brooks, and his wife Antoinette “Toni”; four sisters, Verna Thayer and her husband Mert, Charlena Brown, Marion Renihan, and Gwendolyn Crellen.

          Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:00a.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington.
