Gerald L. Kyes

Torrington- Gerald L. Kyes, 90, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of Violet (Bors) Kyes for 65 years.

        Mr. Kyes was born in Skowhegan, Maine on April 23, 1926, son of the late Lester and Marguerite (Dionne) Kyes, and had been a Maine resident most of his life before moving to Torrington ten years ago. He was a WWII U.S. Marine Corps Veteran having served his country with honor in Iwo Jima and other South Pacific battles. He was the retired proprietor of Kyes Market and Breezy Acres Motel in Skowhegan.

        ​In addition to his wife, survivors include daughters, Kathleen Chadwick and her husband Ted of Goshen, Karen L. Hofmockel and her husband Ken of Monument, Colorado, and son Michael A. Kyes and his wife Audrey of Jackman, Maine, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

​        A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 10:30a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington.
