Torrington- Gladys M. Skokan, 86, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center, Torrington. She was the wife of the late Victor C. Skokan.
Mrs. Skokan was born in Vienna, Maine, on May 28, 1931, daughter of the late William “Eddie” and Thelma (Williams) Amburg, and had been a Torrington resident for the past 62 years. She was a retired Home Health Aide, retiring with 25 years of service. Mrs. Skokan attended the First Congregational Church, Torrington, and was a member of the former Tuesday Group at Church. She was a member of the Sullivan Senior Center, and will be remembered for her great personality, making friends easily.
Survivors include two sons, Earl V. Skokan and his wife Denise of Torrington, and Warren J. Skokan of New Milford; a daughter, Lynn K. Skokan of Torrington; a brother, Gary Amburg and his wife Marlene of Virginia; a sister, Sandra Fischer of Missouri; three grandchildren, Jessica and Christina Moulthrop of Torrington and Rachel Skokan of Seattle; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Skokan was predeceased by two brothers, Lloyd Amburg and Stanley Amburg, and a sister, Jean Bean.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
