Torrington- James E. Hilton, Jr., 79, died Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of the late Norma “Terri” (Southworth) Hilton.

        Mr. Hilton was born in Montgomery, AL on October 19, 1937, son of the late James E. Hilton Sr., and the late Eloise (Collins) Hilton, and had been an area resident for most of his life. He was a U.S. Army National Guard Veteran, and a retired machine operator with the Torrington Company, retiring with over 40 years of service. Mr. Hilton was a founding Member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Litchfield, where he also served as a deacon. He will be remembered for his great work ethic and his love for Nascar racing.

        Survivors include two sons, James Mark Hilton and his wife Jennifer, and John Hilton, all of Torrington; three daughters, Peggy Murphy, and her husband Patrick, Susan Hilton, and Kathy Hilton, all of Torrington; two brothers, Charles Hilton and his wife Betty of Torrington and Robert Hilton and his wife Darlene of Anniston, AL; a sister, Donna Stewart and her husband Mark of Riverside, AL; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Shannon Hilton of Torrington. Mr. Hilton was predeceased by a brother, Julian Hilton.

        Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 5:00p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 441 Torrington Rd., Litchfield. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, will be private. 

        At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 441 Torrington Rd., Litchfield, CT 06759.
