Torrington – Marian Margaret Palmer, 92, beloved widow of James M. Palmer IV, passed away on Friday (Oct. 21, 2016) at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

        Mrs. Palmer was born in Ellsworth, MN, on January 17, 1924, daughter of the late Nerres and Ethel (Rowe) Fischenich, and had been a city resident for 70 years. Marian was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, a member of the St. Francis Women’s Club, Torringford Homemakers Group, and a former member of the New Hartford Garden Club. Mrs. Palmer enjoyed sewing, knitting, rughooking, baking, gardening, music, traveling, trips to the casino, and most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

        Mrs. Palmer is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law: James M. Palmer V, and his wife Barbara, of Concord, NC, Joseph and Shirley Palmer, of Medinah, IL, David and Ellie Palmer, of Hamilton, NJ, John Palmer, of Torrington; four daughters and three sons-in-law: Mary Anne and Ed Maher, of Avon, Susan and John Pelchat, of Torrington, Jean and George Chapin, of Torrington, Joan Palmer, of Torrington; one brother: Bill Fischenich, of Effie, MN; seventeen grandchildren: Bret and Lori Palmer, Beth and Jeff McCluskey, Margaret Palmer, Edward and William Maher, Colleen and Charlie Fues, Sharon and Bruce Palmer-Melendez, Margaret and Derek Genetti, Rachel and Nathan Glenister, Lisa and Michael Chapin, John and Chelsea Palmer, Kaelynn Palmer, Emily and Katie Dixon-Day, Claire Dixon, Andrew and Molly Serven; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Palmer was predeceased by a son: William Palmer; and a grandson: James M. Palmer, VI.

        Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 9:30 AM from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Burial in Old St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington, will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday (Oct. 24, 2016) between 5:00 and 8:00 PM at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.

        At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Torrington Area Parkinson’s Support Group, TAPSG, PO Box 521, Torrington, CT 06790.
