Robert S. Weston

Torrington- Robert “Bob” S. Weston, 69, died Friday, October 14, 2016 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the husband of Linda (Pease) Weston.

        Robert was born in Hartford on February 10, 1947, son of Ruth (Sidney) Weston of Granby and the late Barrett Weston, and had been a Torrington resident for the past 40 years. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston. He was an underwriter with the Hartford Insurance Group for over 20 years.

        Robert was a volunteer firefighter with the Tariffville, Winsted, and Torringford Volunteer Fire Departments. He used letter-writing campaigns to enforce compliance with federal and state accessibility rules in Torrington, Simsbury and Granby. Robert served as a Commissioner of the Torringford Volunteer Fire Department, as vice-chairman of the Torrington Zoning Board of Appeals for over 10 years, as a member of the Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities in Torrington, and as a member of the Western CT Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society assisting with registration and fund-raising efforts for MS walks and rides. He was a member of the Torrington Elks Lodge, and was an avid Red Sox and UConn Women’s Basketball fan. He had a remarkable spirit, sense of humor and joke-telling abilities.

        The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Valerie Manor and VNS for the care shown to Robert.

        Survivors, in addition to his wife, Linda, include one son, Andrew D. Weston of Torrington, one daughter, Kelly A. Barry and her husband Robert of Frederick, MD, one grandson, Sidney R. Barry, four brothers, Bruce L. Weston and his wife Polly of Hamden, Daniel J. Weston and his wife Shirley of Ocala, FL, Barry L. Weston and his wife Barbara of Roanoke, VA, and Thomas E. Weston and his wife Jan of Coventry, three sisters, Karen W. Gazzillo and her husband Tony of Kinnelon, NJ, Terry W. Roach and her husband Richard of Bristol, and Sue W. Smith and her husband Richard of Burlington, one sister-in-law, Isolde Weston of Kefenrod, Germany, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by a brother, David L. Weston.
      

        Services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10:00a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 220 Prospect St., Torrington. Private burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
