Weronika J. (Cegla) Kalwara

Torrington - Weronika J. Kalwara, 89, passed away peacefully at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Marian Kalwara. Weronika was predeceased by her cherished daughter Krystyna Lipski and was a devoted mother to Donata, and her husband Jozef Odorczuk, and Walter Kalwara, and his wife Marilyn. She was an adoring grandmother to Andrzej, Janusz, Diana, Steven, Christopher, Robert, Crystal, Trysia and Michael and great grandmother to Alina, Isabella, Drew, Lena, Alexandra and Hannah.

        Weronika was born in Sielc Nowy, Poland, on July 15, 1928, the daughter of the late Jan and Feliksa Cegla. Having moved her family to the United States, they settled in Terryville and ultimately Torrington where she enjoyed knitting, gardening and cooking traditional polish cookies.  She was able to fulfill her life’s dream of seeing Pope John Paul II in Toronto and attending Sunday Mass with the Pope at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. She was always a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church in Torrington.

        Visiting hours for friends and family will be held at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, CT, on Saturday, December 23, 2017 from 8:00AM to 9:30AM. Immediately following, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Church, 85 Pulaski St., Torrington.  Burial services will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, 863 S Main St., Torrington.

        In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
