Donald J. Mayerjak

Torrington- Donald J. Mayerjak, 77, died Friday, April 21, 2017 in his home. He was the beloved life partner of 51 years to Joseph T. Dungan.

        Mr. Mayerjak was born in Torrington on June 9, 1939, son of the late Paul and Mary (Zbell) Mayerjak, and had been a Torrington resident for most of his life. Donald was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and was a retired accountant with the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections, retiring with 30 years of service. He was an active member of the Sullivan Senior Center, and had served on various center committees. Donald was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, and enjoyed traveling.

        Survivors, in addition to his life partner Joe, include a brother, Kenneth M. Mayerjak and his partner John Curtis; nieces, Janet Mele and her husband Greg, Donna Greco and her husband Mark, and Cathy Reichenberg; nephews, Eric Mayerjak and his wife Amy, and Glenn Mayerjak; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. Donald was predeceased by a brother, Paul Mayerjak, Sr., and a nephew, Paul Mayerjak, Jr.

        Joe would like to thank cousins Kathy and Rich St. Jean, and niece, Amy Mayerjak, for all of the help they gave in Donald’s final days.

        Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 9:30a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30a.m. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Tuesday, April 25, from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.

        At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
