Torrington- Jay C. Whitehill, Sr., 79, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Mary Jane (Mariasi) Whitehill, married for 58 years.
Jay was born in Torrington on May 25, 1940, son of the late Roland and Helen (Clarke) Whitehill, and had been a lifelong city resident. He was employed by the D.O.T. and D.E.E.P. for the State of Connecticut, retiring with 39 years of service. Jay enjoyed woodworking, gardening, golfing, and bowling. He also had a passion for cars and took pride in keeping them in pristine condition. Mostly, Jay enjoyed spending time in and around his home with his family and good friends as well as vacationing on Cape Cod.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Mary Jane, include a son, Jay C. Whitehill, Jr. of East Boston, MA; a daughter, Kim M. Fallon and her husband Dennis of Sharon; a granddaughter, Livia Jayne Fallon; a sister, Courtnea Stark and her husband David of New Salem, NY; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jay also leaves behind some of the best friends a man could ask for. Jay was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Whitehill.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Jay’s life on Saturday, July 27, 2019 from 2:00 to 5:00p.m. at Greenwoods Country Club, 300 Torringford St., Winsted. Burial in New St. Francis Cemetery will be private. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
Whenever Jay was asked to pick a restaurant or where to go, he would say “you pick.” So, at the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the charity of your choice - “you pick.”
