Torrington- Julia Chretien, 87, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles P. Chretien.
Mrs. Chretien was born in Neuhaus, Germany, on June 2, 1931, daughter of the late Paul and Julia Schunko, and immigrated to the United States in 1954. She resided in Pittsfield, MA, before moving to Torrington, where she resided for many years. Julia was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, enjoyed the outdoors, organic gardening, and loved helping animals of all kinds.
Survivors include three sons, William P. Chretien and his wife Sandra of Keene, NH, Geoffrey P. Chretien and his wife Mariann of Torrington, and Paul P. Chretien of Lawrenceville, GA; a daughter, Christina M. Brzoska and her husband Joseph of Torrington; two sisters, Otti Reisinger of Fürstenzell, Germany, and Rita Antlinger of Schärding, Austria; five grandchildren, Christopher Brzoska and his wife Jody, Deirdre Chretien and her husband Domenic Perkins, Sarah Mosher and her husband Nicholas, Robert Chretien, and Nina McIntyre and her husband Joe; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington. Burial is private. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
