Marian (Tanner) Zappulla

Torrington- Marian Zappulla, 97, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas G. Zappulla.

          Mrs. Zappulla was born in Winsted on July 11, 1920, daughter of the late Edward H. and Bessie M. (Longstaff) Tanner, and had been a lifelong area resident. Marian worked for many years with her husband at the family business, Zappulla Real Estate and Insurance Co. She was later employed by the Litchfield Insurance Group prior to her retirement. Mrs. Zappulla was a member of the First Congregational Church in Torrington for over 70 years, and had served as treasurer for several years. She was also a member of Hope Grange #20, where she served as secretary for 15 years.

          Survivors include a son, Rev. Jon T. Zappulla and his partner Lois Arsenault of Windsor; two daughters, Robin Zappulla Magistrali and her husband Judge Michael Magistrali of Torrington and Susan Zappulla-Peters and her husband Rev. David Peters of Roxbury; 6 grandchildren, Amelia, Alison, Kyla, Maura, Kirby, and Felice; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Zappulla was predeceased by a son, Thomas “T.J.” Zappulla, and two brothers, Teddy Tanner and Marvin Tanner.

          Marian will be remembered by family and friends for being a kind and very nice lady.

          Services will be held Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 12:00p.m. at First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Ave., Torrington. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, will be private. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
