Torrington- Vincente C. Rivera, 81, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of the late Mae Emily (Meeker) Rivera.
Mr. Rivera was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, on July 19, 1936, son of the late Vincente and Carmen (Colón) Rivera, and had been a Torrington resident since 1960. He was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict Veteran, and a retired Custodian with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring with over 20 years of service. Mr. Rivera was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Torrington, and enjoyed watching Red Sox Baseball. He will be remembered for working hard and the love he showed his family, especially his grandsons and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include three grandsons, Joshua S. Rivera and his wife Lauren of Enfield, Christian J. Ostrander, and Tyler J. Ostrander, both of Torrington; a brother, Victor Rivera and his wife Priscilla, of Torrington; three great-grandchildren, Mia Ostrander, Norah Rivera, and Bennett Rivera; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Rivera was predeceased by a son, James Rivera, and two daughters, Donna Rivera and Carmen Ostrander.
The family would like to thank the staff at DaVita Dialysis for the years of support and dedication shown to Vincente. The family would also like to thank the staff at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center, for the care shown to Vincente during his stay.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 at 12:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial with full military honors will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Friday morning from 11:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, or the American Kidney Fund.
