Carolyn Ingoldsby Obituary

Torrington- Carolyn A. Ingoldsby, 97, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020 at her home. She was the beloved wife of 56 years of Robert J. Ingoldsby, Sr., who passed away in 2004.

          Carolyn was born in Torrington on December 18, 1922, daughter of the late Ciro and Antoinette (Malone) Albano, and had been a Torrington resident most of her life before moving to West Hartford four years ago. She was a graduate of Torrington High School and worked for Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for 55 years in the admitting office and switchboard. After her retirement, she continued to volunteer at the hospital for many years. Carolyn had been a communicant of St. John Paul the Great Parish and will be remembered for her beautiful singing voice and theatrical abilities. She sang in the St. Francis Choir for over 25 years and was frequently a soloist at funerals. She was one of the original members of the Torrington Chapter of the Sweet Adeline’s. Carolyn appeared in numerous productions with the Torrington Civic Theater, the Pleasant Valley Players, Simsbury Light Opera, and the Thomaston Opera House. Her more memorable roles were Mother Abyss in the Sound of Music, Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret, Miss Skillon in See How They Run, and Mae Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie. Carolyn loved animals and befriended many stray and uncared for cats and dogs. She enjoyed going to tag sales; Foxwoods Casino; and was admired for her beautiful clothing and sense of style.

          She is survived by her daughter, Mary I. Ingoldsby of West Hartford, with whom she resided for many years; her son, Robert J. Ingoldsby, Jr., and his wife Jessie of Torrington; four grandchildren, Carolyn (Carrie), Mary-Selvi, Roberta, and Grace Ingoldsby, all of whom helped care for her with great compassion during this past year; a great-granddaughter, Yasmin Ingoldsby; four step-grandchildren, numerous step-greatgrandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Carolyn was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Albano and a sister, Betty Cantadore.

          Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 11:00a.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00a.m. at St. Peter Church, 107 E. Main St. Torrington. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.

          At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Simon Foundation Animal Rescue, 120 Rescue Lane, Bloomfield, CT 06002 or to a food bank of your choice to assist families affected by COVID-19.
