Carolyn Richtarek Obituary

Torrington- Carolyn A. Richtarek, 89, passed away at Vitas Hospice in Waterbury on December 31, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband George who died October 2005.

She was born in Torrington to the late Wilfred J. (Bill) Blouin and Anna G. (Lestinsky) Blouin and was raised in her teens by second mother Edith (Litke) Blouin.

She was a graduate of St. Francis School and Torrington High School class of 1949. Her first employer was Blouin Lumber Company, a family business. She then worked at Torrington Manufacturing on Franklin St. which became Torin Corp (a new name when it moved to Kennedy Drive and Commercial Blvd.) and was proud of her 31 years there. When the Corporation moved the plant to Indiana she became employed by Summit Bank which became American Bank of CT in the South Main St Mall and worked there until the bank closed.

She traveled on many tours with many friends to Switzerland, England, Germany, and Italy (having a visit with the Pope). She also visited Bermuda, Nassau in the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Later she belonged to the Torrington Ski Club and visited many ski areas with friends from the Hartford Ski Club, one especially remembered was the train trip to Mount Tremblant in Quebec Canada. In the Winter months with the Torrington Ski Club she enjoyed Mt Snow which had just opened up off of Rt 9 in Vermont and where they skied until late Spring. She met her future husband George at a ski lodge and they were married Sept 22, 1972. While Winter was for skiing Summer was for working in her colonial garden of various colorful flowers, and she also enjoyed golfing.

She enjoyed Torrington history and could tell you what went on in the early years of Town and the people who helped the City grow--a historical buff for sure. She appreciated the favors that people did for her, returning the favors in her own special way. She was kind hearted to people who needed help. She loved to read about people and places and was a frequent visitor to the Torrington Library. She loved tag sales, and she and her husband traveled around the State to find that perfect item for their home or yard.

She leaves her older sister Dolores (Blouin) Sawicki of Torrington, brother David W. (Pin) Blouin of Harwinton, niece Sharon A. Sawicki of Bristol, nephew Scott E. Sawicki of Garland, TX, and several cousins. She also leaves her husband’s nephews and nieces: Todd Richtarek of New Hampshire, Rob Richtarek and family of New Jersey, and Greg Richtarek and wife Laura Ness of California; and Eve S. Curtis, Cheryl Molson, and Marie Molson-Stouder all of Indiana.

There are no calling hours. A burial service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am at new St. Francis Cemetery, 863 South Main Street, Torrington. Due to COVID positivity rates there will not be a gathering after the service.

Keep Carolyn in your thoughts and prayers and show kindness to others. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Torrington Library, the Veteran’s Service Office & Museum of Torrington, or the CT Humane Society in Newington.
