Torrington - Catherine A. “Katie” Mannion, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2022, at the age of 97 surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter Barbara of Torrington with whom she lived with.
Katie was born in Torrington on March 19, 1925, to the late Sava & Amelia (Essed) Savopolos. She married John Mannion in 1947 and had 5 children. She graduated from Torrington High School and went on to graduate from the Danbury School for Nursing. She worked for many years at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and also did private nursing. After her retirement she joined the women’s league at Eastlawn Country Club, and was a member of the Sullivan Senior Center and enjoyed her time there playing cards and with the country line dancers. She was a lifelong member of St. Maron’s Church and contributed her delicious cakes every week for the bingo nights. She also spent the last 20+ years as a Florida snowbird in Venice, FL and leaves special friends Pat & Ken Adams.
She was pre-deceased by her husband in 1990 and her son Jackie in 1998, and brothers Anthony and Joseph, sisters Helen, Peggie, Nora, and Mary. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Cherie Mannion of Florida and grandchildren Joe, Rosa, & Sarah, her daughter Cathy & Keith Manley of Illinois and grandchildren Sarah & Michelle, her daughter Maureen & George Riccucci of Torrington, Her daughter Barbara Tuers of Torrington and grandchildren Bill & Evey Tuers of New Jersey, Andrew & Jenn Tuers of New York, and Jared Tuers of Torrington, Son Kevin Mannion of Arizona ( with whom she spent her last year with) and grandchild Keith Mannion. She is also survived by her brother George Savopolos of Florida and a sister Joanie of Maine, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and many friends as well as longtime special friend Bill Pastor.
Katie absolutely loved all her family and friends, but the children really put a big smile on her face. She would light up when they came to visit her. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank her aid Jen Davis and the nurses and aids of Hospice of Litchfield County.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 11:00a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 31 Oak St. Winsted. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Torrington.
