Christine (Jersey) Applewhite

Christine Jersey Applewhite, 48, died unexpectedly on October 14, 2023, at her home in New Hartford.

          Christine was born on April 15, 1975, and grew up in Torrington, CT until she attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington; she was a proud member of Alpha Xi Delta. There she met Billy Applewhite; they married and built their home in New Hartford. In February 2011, Christine fulfilled her dream of becoming a mom with the birth of her son Slade William Applewhite. He has been the absolute love of her life, giving her such pride and happiness. Their relationship was one she treasured.

          Christine also devoted her life to the food safety industry, spending many years with the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, and then with much excitement began her career with the FDA, in Food Safety.  She had many loyal friends and respected colleagues.

          Christine was an avid hiker and dreamed of someday visiting every national park (having already crossed many off her list), and enjoyed quiet time paddleboarding on West Hill Pond.

          Christine leaves behind her son Slade, along with her parents, Andrea and Gary Gawrych; Frank and Wendy Jersey; her sisters, Jennifer Jersey (Andrew) Murphy; Victoria Jersey (Stefan) Kramer and their children, Maizey and Colton; grandmother Catherine Gawrych; grandfather Neil Hanlon; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by grandparents, as well as her ex-husband.

          Christine leaves a hole in the hearts of all who love her. She was sassy and honest, a hard worker and a lifelong learner. She will be greatly missed forever.

            Friends may call Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington.
