Port St. Lucie, FL - Daniel Francis Smedick, Jr., 89, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn Ann (Bauer) Smedick.
Mr. Smedick was born in Torrington on September 2, 1932, son of the late Daniel F. Smedick, Sr., and Carmella “Mollie” (Sabia) Smedick, and had been a Torrington resident most of his life before moving to Florida in 2000. He was a U.S. Navy Korean Conflict Veteran serving aboard the USS Perry. Mr. Smedick was a retired tool and die designer with Grosite Industries, retiring with 18 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Torrington Elks Lodge #372 and the American Legion.
Known as Danny by those closest to him, he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons and their families, including four great-granddaughters. He was a lifelong golfer, shrewdly negotiating for strokes shortly before hitting nearly every drive right to middle of the fairway. In recent years, he could be seen most days of summer enjoying the views of Gardner Lake in Salem, CT with his beloved wife of 69 years, Marilyn. His love of family, sense of humor, and joyful nature will be dearly missed by all those lucky enough to have known him.
Besides his wife Marilyn, Danny is survived by a son, David and his wife, Denise, of Port St. Lucie, FL; two grandchildren, Brian and his wife, Courtney, and their daughters, Mallory and Isla, of Denver, NC; David Jr., and his wife, Jerin, and their two daughters, Salma and Aliya, of Woodland Hills, CA; a sister, Beatrice Pontelandolfo of Southbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Daniel F. Smedick, III.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 7, 2022, at 11:00a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 78 Litchfield Rd., Harwinton. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington.
