David "Dave" Richardson Obituary

David "Dave" Leo Richardson, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 6, 2025, at his home in Winsted, Connecticut. He was 72 years old.

Born on December 6, 1952, Dave was a lifelong resident of Bristol, Connecticut, and spent his life anchored by a deep love for his family, his country, and the ocean. After bravely battling cancer multiple times and overcoming the odds of host versus graft, Dave showed extraordinary strength and resilience throughout his life.

Dave proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years, including distinguished service aboard the USS John F. Kennedy and as a member of the prestigious Presidential Color Guard. After his military service, he built a prolific career as an industrial engineer and electrician, where his hard work and dedication left a lasting impact.

Dave found his greatest joy near the water, where he loved boating and fishing. His humor, kindness, and willingness to help others made him a constant source of comfort and laughter to those around him. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a story that could light up a room, Dave made everyone feel like family.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Deborah Kuffa, Betty Ann Richardson, and Priscilla Richardson; his brother, Maurice Richardson; his children, Nicholas Richardson, Holly Willette, and Dawn Garvey; and many cherished grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Alice Richardson, who surely welcomed him home with open arms.

Dave’s legacy of service, love, and laughter will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.

A memorial service to celebrate Dave’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Dave’s memory by spending time with loved ones near the water — a place he always found peace.
