Dorothy Kitchin Obituary

Torrington- Dorothy G. Kitchin, 80, passed into Glory on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington.

Miss. Kitchin was born in Bantam, CT on January 8, 1940, daughter of the late Raymond C. and Gladys E. (Goslee) Kitchin. Dorothy spent her childhood and early adult years in Bantam, moving to the Torrington area in her thirties.   She was a retired employee of Thomaston Special Products Company in Bantam, where she had been employed for many years. In her later years, she had been employed in housekeeping at the Workman Apartments, Torrington, for 15 years.

Dorothy will be remembered as a humble woman who had a sweet gentleness about her that couldn’t be matched. She had a faith in Jesus that she confirmed in her 40’s through baptism in the Nepaug River.  The family rejoices and takes great comfort in knowing she is with her Savior in eternity.  Dorothy was a member of Warren Congregational Church, enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, and kitties.

“Aunt Dorothy” adored her nieces, nephews, and family,  whom she greeted with the tightest of hugs.  Survivors include a sister, Sylvia Anderson of Sandstone, MN; four nieces and nephews, Norman Kitchin and wife Gail, Gary Kitchin and wife Ann-Elizabeth, Arlene Wheeler, and Janice Hoyos and husband Edsel; 8 grandnieces and grandnephews; 12 great, great nieces and nephews, and 1 new great, great, great niece.  Miss. Kitchin was predeceased by a brother, Walter Kitchin.

The family would like to make special acknowledgement of her niece Arlene, who was devoted to caring for Dorothy throughout many decades.  Arlene not only made herself available for any necessary transportation and care, but she brought Dorothy to church every Sunday to see her nephew preach, and made sure Dorothy had things that made her feel loved and comfortable.

Services and burial in Milton Cemetery, Litchfield, will be held privately. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20077-7127.
