Edward Piechocki, Jr. Obituary

New Hartford- Edward A. Piechocki, Jr.,  passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington with his family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of Helen L. (Cahill) Piechocki for 27 years and devoted father to twin sons, Matthew E. Piechocki (fiance, Krystal Rupram) and Michael D. Piechocki.

Mr. Piechocki was born in Jersey City, NJ, son of the late Edward A. Piechocki, Sr., and Cecelia (Galczenski) Piechocki.  He was predeceased by his sister, Delores Merceron and her husband, Roger. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, honored to serve his country, leaving college to enlist with his best friend Russ Barnett.  Ed loved travelling, was an avid skier, played golf and tennis, enjoyed fishing with his sons, all things outdoors, yard work and building intricate stone walls. He enjoyed spending time at Cape Cod with his Maywood and Begota high school days buddies.  He loved ‘collecting’, and he and his good friend Dave Capolupo spent nearly every weekend in the season out at tag sales, exploring antique shops and road side ‘free’ piles, finding and bringing home treasures they’d promptly hide from their wives.

Ed was blessed with his sons at an age when many friends were becoming grandparents. They kept him young as he supported them through all levels of Scouting, countless sporting activities, and happily transported them to and from The Master’s School in West Simsbury, as he believed deeply in the value of a Christian education.  Ed often said that his sons were his single greatest achievement in life, and no dad was ever prouder.

In addition to life with his wife, Helen, and his two sons, Matthew and Michael, he was blessed to see his cherished New Jersey family often.  Ed adored his nieces and nephews, including Kim Zabarsky (Steven), Lisa Scribellito (Joe), Jeff Merceron ( Donna), David Merceron, Gary Merceron (Denise), Neal Merceron (Sherl), Steven Merceron, and Chris Merceron (Kara). He cherished time with the next generation of great nieces and nephews as well. Though he was a transplant from NJ, Ed had many family members in CT and was always so happy to see his cousins, John (Susan) Pelchat, Pat (Rich) Vautour,  Kathy Pelchat, and Joan Peck. Ed reveled in all family gatherings and will be deeply missed and always much loved.
