Edward Schmitt Obituary

Edward A. Schmitt, 87, of Ocala FL, formerly of Torrington, CT, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Estelle’s House, Hospice of Marion County. He was the beloved husband of Deanna Fedor Schmitt for 61 years.

        Edward, “Smitty”, was born April 23, 1935 in Harwinton, CT, son of the late Harry and Genevieve Bishop Schmitt of Harwinton, CT. He was predeceased by brothers Arthur and Harry, and sisters Genevieve, Betty, and Hope.

        Prior to his retirement in 1997 to Ocala, FL, he was the foreman for Lucas Paving Company, Inc. for many years and in his early years worked for John DeMichiel and Brothers.  He served in the US Army from 1958-1960, stationed in Korea as a cook, therefore, his love of always baking pies and cookies for the holidays. He always enjoyed playing the lottery and “Smitty” was one lucky fella wining many times. He also enjoyed watching UCONN basketball and the Boston Red Sox, and enjoyed working outside in his vegetable garden in Torrington and his cactus garden in Ocala. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be deeply missed.

        In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Judy Waller of Ocala, FL and Sheila Alexson and husband Robert of Harwinton, CT and granddaughter Natalie, his pride and joy, several nieces and nephews, extended family members, and many cherished friends.  Edward was a very loving, caring, and humble man, who always had a smile on his face and is known for his stylish “handle-bar” mustache.
