Norfolk- Edward Moraghan Sepples died Monday, July 12, 2021, his children at his side. Edward was the beloved husband of the late Catherine Brennan Sepples, and father of Anthony, Eileen, Claire, Susan, Patrick, and Mary Ann.
Born in Litchfield on July 23, 1922, Edward was the son of Edward Michael Sepples and Mary Ann Moraghan Sepples. He was a devoted brother to Mary Sepples Dore and Helen Sepples Sterling. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943, serving with the 338th Bombardment Squadron. Stationed in Europe, he flew 19 missions as an Airplane Armorer Gunner from the Snetterton Heath airbase in England. He was honorably discharged in December 1945 at the rank of Tech Sergeant. When called back to active service in the Korean conflict, he served again.
He went to school on the GI bill, married the love of his life, Catherine, and lived a long and beautiful life of joyful devotion to his family, his community, and his church. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Litchfield for almost 99 years. He is known in Litchfield for his many years as Funeral Director and owner of Sepples Funeral Home, for his years as a coach, his many roles in local politics, and for his love of golf (which he played devotedly with his sons into his ninth decade). He was a story teller and historian in the best Irish tradition, and a person to turn to in both triumph and defeat. He loved you equally in both. He lived his faith and he leaves a legacy of love and laughter to his children, their families, and to the many whose lives he touched.
Edward is survived by his children: Anthony (Nancy) Sepples, Eileen (Jeff) Rydel, Claire (Jerry) Grey, Susan (Roger McCord) Sepples, Patrick (Rebecca) Sepples and Mary Ann Stemm; his grandchildren: Shawn, Michele, Christina, Sarah, Joshua, Amy, Kevin, Hannah, Jennifer, Nicholas, Tyler and Catherine; and his great grandchildren: Leah, Joseph, Bianca, Wesley and Whitney. He is beloved of his nieces and nephews from the Dore, Sterling, Brennan and Sullivan families. With special thanks to Eileen and Jeff for sharing their home and hearts these last 17 years.
