Edward S. Sosnowski passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026 In Lake Worth, FL just days shy of his 97th birthday.
Born in Torrington, Connecticut, Ed spent the majority of his years in the town he loved. He graduated from Oliver Wolcott Technical School and went on to build a long and dedicated career with the Torrington Company, where he worked as a tool and die maker. Through hard work and commitment, he rose to the position of foreman before retiring in 1990.
Ed proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in North Carolina and Puerto Rico during the Korean conflict. A proud Marine, he carried that sense of duty, strength, and perseverance throughout his life.
He was married to his first wife, Mary Tomascik, for 36 years until her death in 1986. Together, Ed and Mary raised their three sons in a home full of love, support and respect. In 1988, he married Frances Tomala, and together they shared 34 happy years until she died in 2023. During those years, Ed’s family grew to include Fran’s children, Andrienne Longobucco (Joe) and Patti Mascetti (Bill) and Drew Tomala (deceased) and their children. Ed and Fran shared a wonderful life together, including their years as snowbirds in Tequesta, Florida, enjoying their home and relationships in their community of Little Club.
Ed is survived by his sons, John Sosnowski and his wife, Cynthia Barrall Sosnowski, of Leland, NC, Robert Sosnowski and his wife, Katherine Hall Sosnowski, of Lake Worth, FL, and Mark Sosnowski and his wife, Patricia Kopler Sosnowski, of Torrington, CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jonathan and Julia, step grandchildren, Abigail Mundell and William Spencer, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Julia (Fedorowicz) Sosnowski and Boleslaw Sosnowski; his sisters Dorothy Lewandowski and her husband Stephen, and Sophia Pernal; his brother Alfons Sosnowski; and his grandson, Kenneth B. Sosnowski; and several nieces and nephews.
Ed will be remembered for his strength, his devotion to his family, and his unwavering spirit. Ed was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church in Torrington, where he remained active in parish life for many years. He regularly attended Mass and served as an usher, assisting with services and helping parishioners as needed. His involvement reflected a steady commitment to his church and community, and he took his role seriously without seeking recognition.
Ed’s spirit was relentless to the end and he lived a long, full life surrounded by those who loved him. His last few weeks were blessed with a wonderful caretaker, Gigi, whose company Ed enjoyed and deeply appreciated. His boys will always cherish his example that taught them a lot about personal responsibility, the value of hard work, dedication and faithful living.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20, 2026, at 10:00a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, to St. Peter Church, Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. Burial will follow in St. Thomas of Villanova Cemetery, Goshen.
