Elaine Hinchcliffe, 94, passed away peacefully in February. Born in Torrington, CT, she was the daughter of Raymond and Anne (McDonnell) Borzani.
She is survived by her sister Anne Torda, her daughter Claire, her son Raymond, and his wife Karen and their daughter Emma. She was predeceased by her husband John Hinchcliffe, their son Charles and his wife Diana, and her brother Raymond Borzani.
Elaine made lifelong friends wherever she lived. These included schoolmates in Torrington and neighbors in Cheshire, New Hartford, and Grafton, NY. She participated in garden clubs and volunteered at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and the Torrington Historical Society.
Elaine spent countless hours creating and maintaining her gardens. She also loved going on house, garden, and museum trips with Claire, and when visiting friends.
Genealogy and family lore guided other trips. John and Elaine visited and hosted his distant cousins from France and England. They also went to Italy, Egypt, and Israel. Elaine later went to Ireland with Charlie and Diana.
Calling hours will be held at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home in Torrington, CT, on April 11, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Donations can be made in her name to the Torrington Historical Society. (https://torringtonhistoricalsociety.org/donate)
