Florence M. (DeSantis) Carbonaro

Torrington- Florence M. Carbonaro, 94, passed away Monday, November 27, 2023, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington.

        Mrs. Carbonaro was born in Mt. Vernon, NY, on August 1, 1929, daughter of the late Nicholas and Mildred (Guarino) DeSantis and had been a Yorktown Heights resident most of her life before moving to Torrington in February 2023. She was a secretary at Copper Beech Middle School, Yorktown Heights, retiring at age 72 with 40 years of service. She was very active in her community at Jefferson Village in Yorktown Heights, New York. Not only was she a condo board member, but she also participated in many committees and community activities.

        She was the wife of the late Gregory J. Carbonaro.

Survivors include two children, Donna Shellhammer and her husband, Richard, of Sandisfield, MA, and Robert Carbonaro of Delray Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Heather Carbonaro, Kate Shellhammer, and Hailey Shellhammer; and a great-grandson, Carson Silver. Mrs. Carbonaro was predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Carbonaro; a sister, Ann DeSantis Watkins; and a brother, George Carbonaro.

        She will be laid to rest at Assumption Cemetery in Peekskill, New York in the spring. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
