Gary R. Richard

Torrington- Gary R. Richard, 77, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of 53 years of Candyce B. (Connell) Richard.

        Gary was born in Torrington on March 25, 1945, son of the late Robert F. and Mabel H. (Anderson) Richard, and had been a lifelong city resident. Mr. Richard was a retired science teacher with the Torrington School System, retiring with 35 years of service. In retirement, Gary was employed as a funeral attendant with Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home for over 15 years. He was a lifelong member of Advent Christian Church, Torrington, where he also served as a Deacon and Elder. Gary was a member of the Torrington Fish and Game Club, where he held several offices and committee heads. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, growing Christmas trees, and had a great love for his dogs.

        Survivors, in addition to his wife, Candyce, include a son, Robert C. Richard and his wife, Christine, of Torrington; two daughters, Heather L. Shepard of Cheshire, and Stephanie J. Peltier and her husband, John, of New Hartford; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Richard, Hannah Richard, Aimee Shepard, Christopher Shepard, Lainey Peltier, and Addison Peltier; a brother, Ronald E. Richard and his wife, Kaye, of Laurens, SC; and two nieces.

        Funeral services will be held Monday, February 27, 2023, at 11:00a.m. at Advent Christian Church, 217 New Harwinton Rd., Torrington. Burial in Newfield Cemetery, Torrington, will be held privately. Friends may call Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 3:00 to 5:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington.
