Helen Johnson Obituary

Torrington- Helen M. Johnson, 85, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020, at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Roger J. Johnson.

          Mrs. Johnson was born in New York City, NY, on July 20, 1934, daughter of the late Thomas W. Carey, Sr., and Rose (Lacko) Carey, and had been a Torrington resident most of her life. She was a retired Accountant with the Torrington Company, retiring with over 30 years of service. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her group of lady friends. Her grandchildren were the loves of her life, and she will be remembered for her kind and caring ways.

          Survivors include a son, David M. Johnson and his partner Robin Prepost of Chester, VT; two daughters, Karen A. Carmignani and her husband Cary of Torrington, and Tracy E. Ritchie and her husband Scott of Barkhamsted; four grandchildren, Kevin Carmignani of Narragansett, RI, Dr. Jason Carmignani and his partner Brittany Laginhas of Northampton, MA, Cooper Johnson of St. Augustine, FL, and Evan Ritchie of Barkhamsted; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Carey, Jr., and Donald Carey.

          Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services and burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, will be held privately. A Celebration of Helen’s Life will take place on a future date. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.

          At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Little Guild Animal Shelter, 285 Sharon-Goshen Tpke., West Cornwall, CT 06796.
