Janet (Kins) Cosgrove

Winsted- Janet Kins Cosgrove, 76, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Cosgrove.

Janet Cosgrove was born in Reading, PA, on May 19, 1949, daughter of the late Jacob and Ruth (Philips) Kins, and twin of the late Phyllis K. Schwarz. A Winsted resident since 1981, she was a Professor Emeritus at Northwestern Connecticut Community College and had a passion for educating the next generation. 

Survivors include two nieces, Karen Ferency and her husband, Alon Ferency, and Suzanne Schwarz and her partner, Nathan Jones; a nephew, David Schwarz, and his wife, Lauren; and grandnieces and grandnephews, Eli, Avishai, Adin, Kaya, Phoenix, Avery, Cameran, and Kenzie.

Memorial contributions in Janet’s honor may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September 19, 2025, at 2:30p.m. at Hillside Cemetery, 76 Walnut St., Torrington. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
