Joan E. (Barra) Finkelstein

Torrington- Joan E. Finkelstein, 87, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022, at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert A. Finkelstein.

    Mrs. Finkelstein was born in Burlington, VT, on October 22, 1934, daughter of the late Marco and Violet (Faivre) Barra, and had been a Torrington resident most of her life. She attended the Burville One Room School and was a member of the “Burville School Girls”. Joan had attended the former Beth El Synagogue, Torrington, and had been a member of the Beth El Sisterhood. Joan was very proud of her nursing career and worked at Waterbury Hospital for many years. After retiring, Joan volunteered at the American Cancer Society in Torrington and as a patient receptionist and patient advocate at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Joan also really enjoyed being a literacy volunteer at South School and East School in Torrington.

    Survivors include a daughter, Donna J. DuCotey and her husband, Francis, of Torrington; three grandchildren, Joseph F. DuCotey and his wife, Sara, Francis R. DuCotey and his wife, Tiffany, and Erin L. DuCotey-French and her husband, Michael, all of Torrington; a brother, Richard Barra of Torrington; three sisters, Janet Vater of Torrington, Linda Kish and her husband, John, of Harwinton, and Susan Balthazar and her husband, Gene, of Winsted; seven great-grandchildren, Abigail Bates, Eleanora French, Hudson DuCotey, William French, Everly DuCotey, Mia DuCotey, and Mackenzie DuCotey; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Finkelstein was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Lord.

    Funeral services and burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, are private. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
