Torrington- John E. "Jack" Potter, Jr., 96, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor Mae (Parsons) Potter whom he had known since he was 10 years old.
Mr. Potter was born in Torrington on February 24, 1927, son of the late John E. Potter, Sr. and Mabel (Vinton) Potter, and had been a lifelong city resident. He was a WWII U.S. Army Air Forces veteran and a retired salesman who had been employed in the printing industry and as a Realtor. Mr. Potter was active in the Kiwanis Club, Waterbury, and the Jaycees. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and belonged to several riding clubs.
Mr. Potter was predeceased by a son, John E. Potter, III. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Eleanor, include three sons, Jeffrey E. Potter and his wife, Bonnie, of Newburyport, MA, James E. Potter and his wife, Patricia, and Jay E. Potter, all of Torrington; three daughters, Janis E. McConnell and her husband, David, of Burlington, Jean E. Tyburski and her husband, Paul, of Somers, and Joan E. Thibault and her husband, Rene, of Bristol; a daughter-in-law, Sofia Steiner of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, Ralph Potter of Downingtown, PA; a sister, Priscilla Abeling and her husband, John, of Torrington; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, June 9, 2023, at 11:00a.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Friday morning from 10:00a.m. until the time of services.
