Torrington- John J. “Jay” O’Connor, Jr., 72, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Diane G. (Coons) O’Connor.
Mr. O’Connor was born in Torrington on January 7, 1949, son of the late John J. O’Connor, Sr., and Betty J. (Friday) O’Connor, and had resided in both Torrington and Daytona Beach, FL. He worked at the Torrington Company for 36 years, and retired as Plant Manager. Jay was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church of St. John Paul the Great Parish, Torrington, and a life member of the Torrington Lodge of Elks. Mr. O’Connor enjoyed golfing, fishing, and especially spending time at his home in Florida.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Diane, include a son, John J. “Jay” O’Connor, III, of Cromwell; a daughter, Kelly L. Pergola and her husband, Douglas; a brother, Thomas E. O’Connor and his wife, Cathie; and a sister, Paula J. Hackett and her husband, William, all of Torrington; 5 grandchildren, John J. “Jay” O’Connor, IV, Mary G. O’Connor, Alyssa M. O’Connor, John W. Pergola, and Sophia D. Pergola; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 10:00a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Monday, August 2, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.
