Torrington- Joseph J. Pitonak, 89, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Wolcott Hall Nursing Facility, Torrington.
Mr. Pitonak was born in Torrington on December 24, 1935, son of the late Andrew Pitonak, Sr., and Mary (Demsky) Pitonak, and had been a lifelong Torrington resident. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and was a retired IT Technician with Pratt and Whitney. Mr. Pitonak enjoyed walking, reading newspapers, and sports, especially tennis and basketball.
Survivors include four nieces, Barbara Battistoni, Marie Farrell, Theresa Kelly, and Annie Walla; three nephews, David Trivella, George Walla, and Peter Trivella; and two grand-nephews, John Farrell and Joey Farrell. Mr. Pitonak was predeceased by three brothers, Andrew Pitonak, Jr., Msgr. John Pitonak, and Stephen Pitonak; and three sisters, Mary Walla, Rose Trivella, and Sister Marilyn Pitonak, SS.C.M.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 10:15a.m.from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 71 North St., Goshen, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Thursday morning from 9:15 to 10:15a.m. at the funeral home.
