Julius "Jules" Levine Obituary

Farmington- Julius “Jules” Leonard Levine, 94, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor (Norfleet) Levine. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Jules was a loving husband, father, and loyal friend whose life was marked by curiosity, creativity, and generosity.

Jules was an educator in the New York City school system for more than thirty years, a career that reflected his deep commitment to learning and to shaping young minds.

An accomplished musician, Jules was a gifted trumpeter. Early in life, he played with the United States Marine Corps Band and performed at President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s inauguration during the Korean War era. Music remained a constant presence throughout his life. He later played in a brass band in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, and developed a love for symphonic music in his later years. When he was no longer able to play his trumpet, he donated it to a local high school, hoping to inspire the next generation of musicians.

Jules was deeply curious about the world around him. A devoted reader, he was especially interested in U.S. history, philosophy, religion, and current events. A self-described “news junkie,” he enjoyed lively discussions about politics and world affairs with family and friends. His spiritual and intellectual journey was ongoing, and at various times in his life he explored Judaism, Atheism, and Buddhism.

A Civil War enthusiast and nature lover, Jules also found joy in hands-on creativity. He enjoyed marquetry and took pride in cooking, particularly Chinese cuisine. An avid traveler, he visited Israel, Greece, Italy, England, Spain, the Canary Islands, Mexico, Alaska, and Puerto Rico. At home, he cherished the companionship of his beloved cat, “Benny Katz” and his golden retriever, Toby.

Above all, Jules will be remembered for his kindness, caring nature, and unwavering dedication to his family.

Jules is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor Norfleet Levine; two daughters, Mara Levine and her husband, Alan Bennett, and Karen Levine; his stepdaughter, Kathleen Lundgren, and her husband, Timothy Lundgren; his stepson, Brett Eastman; and his former spouse, Sheila (Lipoff) Levine. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Aaron and her husband, his brother-in-law, Eugene Aaron.

Jules leaves behind a legacy of learning, music, generosity, and love that will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A Graveside Memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Hillside Cemetery, 76 Walnut St., Torrington.
