Lansing "Lance" Cser

Lansing “Lance” Cser, 61, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Torrington on Monday, January 3rd, 2022.  He was born on January 9th, 1960, the son of late John and Florence (Brague) Cser.  He grew up in Harwinton and graduated from Lewis Mills High School.  Lance enjoyed playing basketball on local teams in his younger years and was an avid reader and fan of sci-fi.  Naturally friendly, he lived a very social life and made many good friends over the years.

        A master cabinetmaker, Lance was passionate in his career.  Helping his dad in their home workshop as a teenage boy, he discovered his love of woodworking.  Not even a table saw accident at 15 could dampen his zeal; Despite maiming four fingers and losing two permanently, he persevered in what would become his lifelong passion.  By the age of 17, he began his fledgling business “Hillside Pine” in a barn that he built on his family’s homestead.  From these humble beginnings, he devoted himself to his craft, cultivating and refining it to become a highly respected master craftsman. His work stands as his legacy; from Connecticut homes to New York City penthouses, stately historical building renovations, barns, beautiful kitchens, elegant woodwork, and fine furniture. 

        He is survived by two daughters, Ashley Cser of Torrington and Amber Cser-Reimann and her husband Matthew of Torrington, and the mother of his children, Jean Preato-Cser. He is also survived by his brothers; Alan of Alabama, Jimmy of Tennessee, John of Virginia, and Richard of Torrington, and his sister Donna Caulfield of Connecticut and several nieces, nephews and foster brothers.  He was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Dellavalle and Elaine Ene.  He will be dearly missed by his family and his many good friends who shared his life.  

        In light of Covid, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
