Torrington- Leon J. Cattey, Jr., 79, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Litchfield Woods Healthcare Center, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of the late Stella M. (Jankowski) Cattey.
Mr. Cattey was born in Torrington on July 27, 1942, son of the late Leon J. Cattey Sr., and Amelia (Skorvanek) Cattey, and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a retired machinist with Pratt and Whitney Co., retiring with 35 years of service. Leon was an active communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church, Torrington, where he had served as an usher and CCD teacher. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and was active in his earlier years with the Vagabond Drum Corps. Leon was a member of the Sullivan Senior Center and had been an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed history, art, and culture.
Survivors include two sons, Leon J. Cattey, III, and Martin L. Cattey, both of Torrington; a daughter, Diane S. Zappone and her husband, Michael, of Plymouth; four grandchildren, Dominic M. Zappone, Nicholas J. Zappone, Isabelle S. Zappone, and Jacob R. Cattey; a sister, Jeanne Aprile and her husband, Anthony, of Litchfield; a niece, and a nephew. Mr. Cattey was predeceased by a brother, Louis Cattey.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 10:00a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00a.m. at the funeral home.
