Leona H. (Hemenway) Patnaude

Leona Patnaude, 88, of Fort Myers, Fla., passed away Jan. 25, 2021, at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Fla.

        Formerly of Wolcott and Bristol, she was born Feb. 8, 1932 in Alburg, Vt., to Rose Ann Bourgeois and Glendon Hemenway. She was preceded in death by her former husband Gerard Patnaude, her daughter Vivian Nole, and siblings Donald Reynolds, Patricia Reynolds and Mona Kulik.

        She is survived by her siblings Carl, Morlen, Murray, Bernita , Alfreda and Debbie, and her children- Stephen (Lynn) Patnaude, Cathi (Tom) Kazulanus, son-in-law Alex, Marilyn (Tom) Rose and Patty (Warren) Crawford.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

        She was an amazing, strong, opinionated woman and hints of her indomitable spirit can be found in each of her children and grandchildren. She operated North End Market on Route 69 in Wolcott in the early 70s and then worked for many years at Bristol Hospital, retiring from her position of unit secretary in 2002. She moved to Florida soon after joining numerous clubs, playing games, riding her golf cart to the pool and doing Zumba. She traveled widely and “never met a stranger” and leaves many friends in Conn. and Fla. We will miss her beautiful smile every day.

        Friends may call Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Those attending the calling hours are asked to please wear a mask. Burial will be private.
