Torrington- Leslie D. Stacy, 82, a beloved mother, wife, and mentor to many, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025, after a long illness.
Leslie was born in New York City, NY, on October 22, 1942, daughter of the late Melville and Ruth (Dvoren) Daus, and had resided in the Torrington area since 1984. She worked as a Family Relations Counselor for the State of Connecticut, retiring in 2004 after many years of service.
Leslie attended Hunter College High School in Manhattan, NY and graduated from Cornell University in 1964. She went on to obtain a Master’s in Counseling from Mercy College, Long Island University, NY.
She was an active member in local A.A. groups and proudly celebrated 43 years of sobriety July 2024. She gave and received immeasurable support from the A.A. community.
Her father, Mel, was a major influence in her life. He can be credited with her love of jazz, golf and tennis, Marx Brothers movies, and the NY Mets, as well as her dislike of the NY Yankees. She loved spending weekends in Vermont with her husband Art, watching sports and dining out with local friends. She was a whiz with crossword puzzles, printing up the Sunday NY Times puzzle and racing Art for bragging rights belonging to the first to finish.
Leslie loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. She is remembered by friends as vivacious with a sparkling wit and magnetic personality. She most recently resided in assisted living at Brandywine in Litchfield where staff could count on her big smile and to be quick with a joke.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur F. Poole of Torrington; two children, Marnie Gilman and her husband, James, of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Parker Stacy and his wife, Dorothy, of Cary, NC; stepdaughter, Hilary Poole, her husband Mark Wood and their daughter Maia Wood, of Torrington; grandchildren, Tobias Stacy of Clayton, NC and Quint Shortell, his wife Kari and their son Rin, of Cartersville, GA; and Leslie’s beloved cat Punkita.
