Lillian J. (Nardi) Arel

Torrington- Lillian J. Arel, 96, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles A. Arel.

          Mrs. Arel was born in New Bedford, MA on March 7, 1924, daughter of the late Tranquillo and Olinda (Battistone) Nardi, and had been a Torrington resident since the age of 9. She was a retired needle shop worker with the Torrington Company and also retired from Inertia Dynamics in New Hartford. Lillian was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, of St. John Paul the Great Parish, Torrington. Mrs. Arel was member of the Sullivan Senior Center, Torrington, and volunteered at the Senior Center Thrift Shop. She will be remembered for her strong work ethic.

          Survivors include a daughter, Janet Arel of Torrington; two brothers, Ernest Nardi of Torrington and Bruno Nardi and his partner Jean White of Summerfield, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

          The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Litchfield Woods for the wonderful care shown to Lillian during her stay.

          A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 11:00a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington. Burial was held privately in State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.

          At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the food bank at the Salvation Army, 234 Oak Ave., P.O. Box 209, Torrington, CT 06790.
