Margaret Carolyn (Davis) Martell

Torrington- Margaret Carolyn Martell went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.  She passed away peacefully at 85 years old, in her home, surrounded by her family. 

          She was born in Torrington to the late Elmer and Frances Davis.  She attended school in Bakerville, CT.  She was a kind, compassionate, hardworking CNA until she finally retired at the age of 75. She enjoyed telling a story of how she went into a patient’s room answering a call light and the patient, who was younger than she was, said “Oh dear you don’t have to help me, they have people who get paid to help me.”  She enjoyed attending church at The Fellowship of Believers when her health would allow for it.  Margaret’s greatest joy was spending time with her extensive family.  She loved camping, fishing, picnics, crosswords and jigsaw puzzles.  She had a wonderful sense of humor and an easy, infectious laugh.  Margaret lived for many years with her son, Steven, who provided her with a warm and welcoming home, good cooking and companionship.

          The family would like to thank Dr. Olga Deengar of CHH for her excellent care during her recent hospitalization and her caring niece Laura Wilson for her loving, gentle care in her last days.  

          She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Leslie Fairchild, Steven St. Jean, Deborah Martel and her husband Robert, Richard St. Jean and his wife Kathy, Sarahjane Pennell and her husband Gary as well as 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  Margaret was predeceased by her parents, two sisters and two brothers, by a daughter Janet Davis, son Ned St. Jean and son-in-law Edwin Fairchild. 

          At Margaret’s request, graveside services were held in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
