Margery A. (Gaffney) Griskauskas

Torrington- Margery A. Griskauskas, 89, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2020. She was the beloved wife of 62 years of the late John P. Griskauskas, who passed away December 8, 2019.

        Mrs. Griskauskas was born in New Britain on May 24, 1930, daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Sullivan) Gaffney and had been a Sharon resident before moving to Torrington over 20 years ago. She obtained her BA from Teachers College and her MA from the University of Connecticut. She worked as a first-grade teacher at Smith Elementary School in New Britain before marrying her husband John and becoming co-proprietor of Joanna Farm in both Sharon and Cheshire for more than 50 years. Mrs. Griskauskas was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church of St. John Paul the Great Parish. Margery was a member of the Sullivan Senior Center, enjoyed gardening, traveling, and taking cruises. She had a great love for her two dogs, Merry and Emmy.

        Survivors include three sons, Charles Griskauskas and his wife Rebecca of Anaconda, NY, Joseph Griskauskas and his wife Patricia of Northford, and Robert Griskauskas and his wife Irene of Chesterfield, MO; a daughter, AnnMarie Hoffmaster and her husband Brian of Cockeysville, MD; two sisters, Jane Gunther of Middletown and Kathe Hooper and her husband Richard of Millsboro, DE; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

        Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services and burial in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington, will be held privately. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a date and time to be announced. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
