Torrington- Mark S. Lovato, 72, passed away May 16, 2026. Mark was born in Torrington on March 8, 1954, son of the late Mario and Priscilla (Norton) Lovato, and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a retired Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service.
Mark was a devoted Christian who loved church and was passionate about spreading the word of God. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. Whether cheering them on, making them laugh, or simply being together, his grandchildren were truly the light of his life.
Known for his quick wit and playful sense of humor, Mark was a natural jokester. Proud of being a “ladies’ man,” one of the greatest joys in his life was being surrounded by his daughters, who meant the world to him.
Mark was well known for his daily breakfast at Tony’s Restaurant, his 2 p.m. gatherings at Dunkin', where he cherished time spent with friends and family. An avid sports fan and participant, Mark had a lifelong love for wrestling, softball, duckpin bowling, and baseball — especially his beloved New York Yankees. Win or lose, he proudly supported the Yankees and rarely missed the chance to talk baseball, watch a game, or celebrate a Yankees victory with those around him. He also had a passion for collecting coins, metal detecting, trying his luck with scratch tickets, visits to the casino, OTB, and treating himself to banana milkshakes from Carvel and infamous peanut butter sandwiches. Mark will be remembered for his warm spirit, strong faith, contagious humor, love for his family, and the lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Survivors include his children, Melanie Lovato-Giarnese and her husband, Andrew, Danielle Trivaudey-Lovato, and Jordyn Lovato; his grandchildren, Ava Giarnese, Mia Giarnese, Cash King, and Luka King; his siblings, Fred Lovato, Carla Bazzano, and Tina Sarasin, and many nieces and nephews. Mark was predeceased by his siblings, Kim Kantor, James Lovato, Paula Doolittle; nephews Brian Maestri and Bruce Sarasin; and his niece, Jessika Lovato.
A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at a later time and date. Details will be announced once they are finalized.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org/donate).
