Harwinton - Martin Dionne, 92, formerly of Van Buren, Maine passed away peacefully and went home to be with his Lord on November 4, 2025.
He was born in Saint Anne, New Brunswick, on June 4, 1933, son of the late Philip and Olive (Martin) Dionne. Martin was a devoted family man whose greatest joy was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. He was a retired foreman at Whyco Finishing Technologies, Thomaston.
He married Shirley Saucier in 1953, and together they raised five children. After he and Shirley divorced in 1989, Martin met Juliette St. Pierre, with whom he shared 29 loving years in Van Buren, Maine. Following Juliette’s passing in 2021 Martin returned to Connecticut, spending the last 4.5 years residing in Harwinton with his daughter, Debora.
Survivors include four children: Galen (Stacey) Dionne of Goshen, Debora Root (Ted) of Harwinton, Sherie Tentoni (James) of Torrington, and Martin Dionne, Jr., of Harwinton, 2 daughters-in-law, Emily Dionne of Thomaston and Laurie Dionne of Terryville, two brothers, Jean Dionne of Quebec and Conrad Dionne (Pat) of Maine; three sisters, Candida Dionne, Jacqueline Couillard, and Cecilia Dechenes, all of Montreal; 14 grandchildren, Kelani (Justin) Carbonneau daughters Chloe and Nora of West Hartford, Dylan (Caitlin)Dionne of Goshen, Shannon Dionne of Bristol, Wayne (Monica)Dionne daughter Ellianna and a son Ean of Wolcott, Theodore Root, Jr. (Brittany) daughters Carter and Andi and sons Theodore “William” III and Owen of Harwinton, Ashley (Giuseppe)Graziano daughters Lucy, Makenna , Evangelina, Giulia and Mariella of Harwinton, Gregory (Brittany)Root and daughter Rosalie of Dover, NH, Duane Black, Jr., of New Britain, Nicholas Black of Norfolk, Faith Black of Bantam, Ben Black of Torrington, Lindsey (Zach) Hockaday sons Ashton and Aric of Georgia, Myranda Dionne (Ryan Slayton)and son Jaxon of Russell, MA, and Jennah (Andrew)Mullen of Torrington; and two more great-grandchildren expected soon. Martin was predeceased by a son, Wayne Dionne Sr., a grandson, Galen Dionne, Jr.; 3 brothers Emmanuel, Wilbrod, Rudolph and 1 sister Jeanette.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 5, 2025, at 10:30a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 78 Litchfield Rd., Harwinton. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
