Torrington- Mary M. Beyer, 97, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles V. Beyer.
Mrs. Beyer was born in Torrington on January 19, 1926, daughter of the late John and Julia (Meyerjack) Zaharek, and had been a lifelong city resident. She was a retired office manager with the Girl Scouts of Northwestern Connecticut and a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts of America. Mrs. Beyer was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church of St. John Paul the Great Parish, Torrington, where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. She was a member of the St. Francis Women’s Club and Catholic Council of Women. Mrs. Beyer, proud of her Slovak heritage, was a member and officer of the Slovak Catholic Sokol Wreath 86. She was an avid UCONN Women’s basketball fan and enjoyed baking.
Survivors include three children, Patricia B. Kelly and her husband, Edward, of Litchfield, Charles V. Beyer and his wife, Katherine Marchand-Beyer, of Torrington, and Janet B. Giampaolo and her husband, James, of Panama City Beach, FL; a sister, Elizabeth T. “Betty” Zaharek, of Torrington; seven grandchildren, Kara (Beyer) Parker and her husband, Ian, of Goshen, Elizabeth (Kelly) Hodosy and her husband, Philip, of Suffield, Krista (Beyer) Robinson and her husband, Gary, of Torrington, James Giampaolo and his wife, Torrie, of Norwalk, James Kelly of Salisbury, Julia Giampaolo French and her husband, Andre, of Crawfordville, FL, and John Kelly of Salisbury; six great-grandchildren, Wes, Wyn, and Web Parker, Rocco Giampaolo French, and baby sister expected in March, Eloise Hodosy, and Bradley Robinson. Mrs. Beyer was predeceased by her siblings, Julia Misencik, John Zaharek, Sophia Wilcox, Michael Zaharek, Andrew Zaharek, Anna Taddei, and George Zaharek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 10:30a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Friday, February 10, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington.
