Nellie (Bakunis) Vestali

Torrington - Nellie (Bakunis) Vestali, 91, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2021 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Vestali for more than 50 years.

          Mrs. Vestali was born in Torrington on February 20, 1930, daughter of the late George and Anna (Shaulis) Bakunis, and had been a lifelong Torrington resident. She was educated in local schools and had worked for many years at the service desk at the Torrington Bradlees. Mrs. Vestali was an active communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church of St. John Paul the Great Parish, Torrington. She was active in the St. Francis Mothers’ Club and Sullivan Senior Center.

        Mrs. Vestali was the heart of a large extended family – everyone loved spending time at “Aunt Nellie’s” house. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for the great concern shown for everyone she knew.

        Left to cherish her memory are her children, Patty Ebbs and her husband, Paul, Linda Newton and her husband, John, and Jim Vestali; three grandchildren, Meghan Michalak and her husband, John, Colin Ebbs, and Carl Newton and his wife, Nina; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Michalak; a sister, Frances Beres, with whom she shared the same birthday; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mrs. Vestali was predeceased by six siblings.

        Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 10:30a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:30a.m. at the funeral home.
