Renate Hilde Riese

Torrington- Renate Hilde Riese, 79, passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 29, 2025, after a brief illness.

Renate was born in Bochum, Germany, on May 15, 1946, daughter of the late Kurt and Ilse (Bruens) Riese. She moved across the ocean to the USA at the age of 11 with her parents and sister, where they settled in Torrington and lovingly spent their life. Renate was a retired inspector with the Torrington Company. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Torrington, and loved to garden and spend time with her family.

Renate will always be remembered for her unwavering love for family.

Survivors include a sister, Iris Barko; a brother-in-law, Alexander Barko; a niece, Erika Fairlie; a nephew, Alex Barko; and their families.

A service to honor and celebrate Renate’s life will be held Friday, September 5, 2025, at 11:00a.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington.
