Harwinton- Robert J. Ethier, 88, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 at his home.
Mr. Ethier was born in Torrington on October 26, 1931, son of the late Louis and Margaret (Ryan) Ethier, and had been a lifelong Torrington area resident. He was a U.S. Navy Korean Conflict Veteran, serving as an Engineman. His military awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Ethier was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church of St. John Paul the Great Parish, Torrington. He enjoyed baseball, basketball, model ship building, and was an avid reader of WWII history. Better known as Bob, he also enjoyed music; he played both guitar and piano and penned several songs and poems throughout his life.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas P. Ethier and his wife Lori of Torrington and Joseph E. Ethier of Worcester, MA; a daughter, Linda A. Arigoni and her husband Scott of Torrington; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three nieces, and a nephew.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all of Bob’s caregivers, especially Tasha and Carlos Ramos and Lashanda Davis, for the wonderful care and kindness shown to him.
Services and burial with full Military Honors in Old St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington, will be private. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
