Harwinton- Russell Coe Manchester II, 79, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at his home. Russell was born in Torrington on July 30, 1943, son of the late Dr. Russell C. Manchester and Dorris E. (Stone) Manchester.
Professionally, after receiving his degree in Chemical Engineering, Russell held senior engineering and sales positions in the semiconductor, chemical, disk drive and ultrasonic and precision cleaning industries. Throughout the years, he worked on many important projects; taking part in the development of the Trident Missile Program, lecturing at several technical conferences and publishing articles in Precision Cleaning magazine. Russell was granted 5 U.S. Patents for his various works.
He enjoyed Maine, gemstones, making jewelry, collecting unique rocks, and tending to his orchids. Russell had a great love of nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed photography and traveling, especially to Europe, Asia, and Southeast Asia.
He is survived by his beloved partner of 25 years, Julie Lydon of Waconia, MN; three children, Jonathan C. Manchester, Amy Manchester-Woodilla and her husband, Scott, and Benjamin C. Manchester, all of Harwinton; a brother, Robert Manchester of Whitefield, ME; a sister, Sheryl Harper of South Bristol, ME; and two nephews, Robert “Rob” Manchester of Torrington and Randall “Randy” Manchester of Goshen.
Graveside services will be held Friday, June 16, 2023, at 2:00p.m. at Hillside Cemetery, 76 Walnut St., Torrington. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
