Sheila Diachenko Obituary

Sheila’s life was one of constant transitions leading her to reside in several states. Born in Torrington, Connecticut, she lived in Connecticut, New Jersey, Long Island New York, Montana, Washington, and Maine finally returned to Torrington for the past several years where she finally succumbed to her courageous fight with a long term illness on Saturday March 7, 2026.

Her life was a quest for knowledge, leading her to attend Southampton College, the University of Montana, and Northwestern Connecticut Community College earning her several degrees.

Sheila was a determined, competent and intelligent woman and knew how to get things done. Although mobility restricted her during her later years, she was still able to reach out and touch the lives of many.

She enjoyed hiking, camping and the beach and was generally an “outdoors” woman. This was exemplified by one of her school projects with grizzly bears which had her living in a Ranger’s Tower deep in the Montana wilderness.

She was affiliated with the Salvation Army in Montana, Washington and Connecticut as a former Soldier.

She was an avid cat fancier, having several as pets during her lifetime.

She adored children and provided childcare in several capacities over the years.

Sheila was a member of the Saint Francis of Assisi parish in Torrington.

She was predeceased by her parents John W. Diachenko and Margaret Diachenko and leaves behind two brothers, Jack and Kenneth, one nephew, Kenneth, three nieces Jacquelyn, Jennifer, and Allison and two grandnieces Gianna and Sophia.
